Airtel Empowers 7 Startups Entrepreneurs

Thursday, February 12, 2015: Airtel Nigeria, the fastest growing Telecom companies in Nigeria has rewarded 7 entrepreneurs with exceptional apps and business startups ideas with a sum of 1million Naira each.
This gesture is to support entrepreneurship initiative, empower application developers and startups as well as integrates them into the Airtel network, to enable them operate effectively and efficiently in their various businesses.
Speaking during the ‘Catapult-a-Startup from Garage to Boardroom’ event held in Lagos, Nitin Anand, Vice President, Data and Product Services, Airtel said the initiative is to encourage young entrepreneurs to develop their business through application apps.
He emphasized that the platform which aims to inspire innovation and assist start-up mobile app developers towards actualizing their business goals and dreams.
“The journey start now, you have made the right choice and this is the right time for you to make it, therefore use the money given to you effectively to boost your business” He admonished the winners.
Tomi Davies, Chairman and Founder, Mobile Monday and a partner of the product said that Airtel hopes that through this product, it will employ a significant number of Nigerians because this is about creating businesses that can employ Nigerians in Nigeria, using technology.
According to Davies, “The money they have received today is a cash gift and we use that to help us identify the kind of companies that can take advantage of the Airtel network to create jobs for Nigerians because not everybody can work for Airtel.”
Some of the initiatives rewarded span across various sectors ranging from of Education, Utility, Business, Games and Leisure and games.
Oluyemi Omole, one of the winners who run an online and mobile examination testing platform said that with Airtel platform, his company can now reach as many students as possible and bring more persons into the platform.
He however thanked Airtel for the opportunity and assured Airtel that they will work harder in ensuring students perform excellently through this platform and properly manage the money given to them.
