The Evolution of Logos: Tech Brands

SamsungFounded: 1938

The vast changes made to Samsung’s logo reflect the staggering length of time they have been around. Samsung began life in 1938 as a trading company which made noodles and a wide range of dried seafood. Lee Byung-Chul (founder) named the company Samsung, which translates to 3 stars. His vision was that Samsung would become as permanent as the stars in the sky. It wasn’t until 1993 that Samsung removed the 3 stars from their logo opting instead for the logo that is so familiar to us now.
The new logo was introduced to mark the 55th anniversary of the company’s founding. The key features include:
The slightly-tilted ellipse which represents the universeThe Blue representing the sky and oceanThe S and the G of Samsung break the boundary of the logo showing Samsung’s connectedness to everything.

The Happiest And Unhappiest Industries In 2014

Which professions have the happiest workers? Sexy industries like the movies or lucrative, intellectually challenging businesses like software engineering? It so happens that both of those professions make it into the top five happiest industries, according to a new list compiled by seven-year-old Irvine, CA career website CareerBliss. Though I tend to be skeptical about happiest and unhappiest lists, CareerBliss collected an impressive amount of data to put this one together. It tallied 9,800 company reviews generated by its users. It asked them to rate their happiness on a scale of one to five in eight different categories. Then it crunched the numbers and tallied the answers out to three decimal points. The categories:
1. Person you work for
2. People you work with
3. Work setting
4. Support you get
5. Rewards you receive
6. Growth opportunities
7. Company culture
8. Way you work
The industry that comes out on top: Software publishers. They get a 4.014 score overall,…

Obama to host Tibet Leader, Dalai Lama at White House

China has been angered by previous meetings between the Dalai Lama (left) and Barack Obama

US President Barack Obama will meet exiled Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama on Friday, US officials say. China has urged the US to cancel the meeting, saying it will "seriously impair China-US relations".
China describes the Dalai Lama as a separatist, while the spiritual leader says he only advocates greater autonomy for Tibet, not independence.
Officials say the US does not support Tibetan independence but is concerned about human rights in China.
The two men last met in 2011, in talks that angered China.
Tibet is governed as an autonomous region in China.
China has been widely accused of repressing political and religious freedoms in Tibet. Beijing rejects this and says economic development has improved Tibetans' lives.

Mugabe At 90: Nine things you may not know

Robert Mugabe is turning 90 and a weekend of celebrations is planned in Zimbabwe to celebrate the president's long life. Born in the village of Kutama, south-west of the capital, he was educated by Jesuits and went on to become a teacher before joining the liberation struggle, spending 11 years in prison and becoming Zimbabwe's first leader in 1980. Here are nine things you may not know about him - and which may hold the key to his longevity.
1) Exercise and traditional food "I fall sick if I don't exercise," Mr Mugabe said three years ago. Needing little sleep, he gets up between 04:00 and 05:00 every morning to exercise while, according to a close source, listening to the BBC World Service. But he's not fond of the gym machines his wife has installed in state house and prefers to follow his own regime: "In prison we had no equipment, we just had ourselves and that's what I still do today."

Another secret to his long life may be…

Exclusive: The Rags-To-Riches Tale Of How Jan Koum Built WhatsApp Into Facebook's New $19 Billion Baby

Jan Koum picked a meaningful spot to sign the $19 billion deal to sell his company WhatsApp to Facebook earlier today. Koum, cofounder Brian Acton and venture capitalist Jim Goetz of Sequoia drove a few blocks from WhatsApp’s discreet headquarters in Mountain View to a disused white building across the  railroad tracks, the former North County Social Services office where Koum, 37, once stood in line to collect food stamps. That’s where the three of them inked the agreement to sell their messaging phenom –which brought in a miniscule $20 million in revenue last year — to the world’s largest social network.
Koum, who Forbes believes owns 45% of WhatsApp and thus is suddenly worth $6.8 billion — was born and raised in a small village outside of Kiev, Ukraine, the only child of a housewife and a construction manager who built hospitals and schools. His house had no hot water, and his parents rarely talked on the phone in case it was tapped by the state. It sounds bad, but …

Horrible! Woman kills Pregnant Friend, Removes baby From her Womb

A Massachusetts woman found guilty in the first-degree murder of her pregnant friend has been sentenced to life without the possibility of parole, according to Worcester Superior Court. Julie Corey, who was 35 at the time of the crime, was convicted in 2009. She was found to have bludgeoned and strangled her friend, Darlene Haynes, 23, before cutting the baby from the victim's womb. Haynes' body was found in her apartment on July 27, 2009. She was eight months pregnant at the time of her death. Days after the murder, Haynes' baby was found with Corey in New Hampshire. DNA evidence and a fingerprint on a bottle at the crime scene tied Corey to the killing, the district attorney's office said. According to trial testimony, Corey tried to pass the baby off as her own to family and friends, the statement said. Crowds gather outside of Middlesboro snake-handling pastor's funeral

MIDDLESBORO, KY. (WATE) - Family and friends said goodbye Tuesday night to a snake-handling pastor.
Jamie Coots, 42, died after suffering several rattlesnake bites. Coots was handling the snakes during his Saturday evening service at "Full Gospel Tabernacle in Jesus Name" in Middlesboro, Kentucky. He refused any medical help.
Coots was also the subject of the National Geographic Channel series "Snake Salvation."
A crowd of people lined the sidewalks outside of Creech Funeral Home. They came out to Coots' funeral to speak out against Westboro Baptist Church. Members of the controversial Kansas-based church threatened to protest against homosexuality and veterans at the funeral, but never showed up.
"We've got about ten of these American flags so any protest signs they bring we've got a right to be there too so we're going to cover them up. We're not going to get violent," said veteran Doug Bayless.

Finally! Facebook Acquires WhatsApp for $16 Billion

Facebook has entered into an agreement to acquire WhatsApp, the popular messaging app, for $16 billion in cash and stock, according to a filing Wednesday.
The deal is by far Facebook's largest acquisition to date and comes after rumors in late 2012 and early 2013 that Facebook and Google were vying to buy the messaging service.
"WhatsApp is on a path to connect 1 billion people. The services that reach that milestone are all incredibly valuable," Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook's cofounder and CEO, said in a statement. "I've known Jan [Koum, WhatsApp cofounder] for a long time and I'm excited to partner with him and his team to make the world more open and connected."
WhatsApp is the most popular of a set of mobile messaging apps that some argued posed a threat to Facebook's business. The app lets users send messages for free across smartphone platforms and had proved particularly popular abroad and in emerging markets.

Finally,Bianca Ojukwu opens up on her late husband, claims by Femi Fani Kayode and much more (A must read)

Her Excellency, Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu
It has been over a year now, since your dear husband-Dim Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu passed on. Knowing the level of love and passion that existed between you two, and the moving tribute you wrote, how has life been without him?
Her Excellency, Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu:
The exit of a man of his caliber means that things would never be the same because of the huge vacuum that is created by such an exit. As I said in my tribute, God gave me a year to prepare, even though I had a lot of faith that he will pull through, it was an emotional roller coaster, which eventually culminated in his demise. It was almost another full year of condolence and commiseration, and when that was over, you now had to ease yourself into a new life, and I consider myself particularly lucky, because it was a transition into a new life, new opportunities, new experiences because after the mandatory period of mourning, I now took up the appointment as the Ambassador of Niger…

Her mom and dad started to realize she was something special when she began to recite bedtime stories at 12-18 months old.

Unbelievable! See Country Where Girls Are Prevented From Having Breast!

I watched this documentary on T.V, then checked on it online and decided to share with you.
A hidden form of abuse known as “breast ironing”, in which girls as young as 10 have their chests pounded with hot objects to disguise the onset of puberty, could be taking place in Britain.
The mutilation is a traditional practice from Cameroon designed to deter unwanted male attention, pregnancy and rape by delaying the signs that a girl is becoming a woman. Experts believe that the custom is being practiced amongst the several thousand Cameroonians now living here.
A conference on how to prevent the abuse both in the UK and overseas is being held today in Ealing, west London. Its organisers, a charity called CAME Women’s and Girl’s Development Organisation (Cawogido), is already working with the Met Police and social services to tackle the problem.
The Independent understands a woman was arrested two years ago in London because police believed she had performed the procedure on he…

19-year-old Female Serial Killer Admits killing more Than 22 People

A Pennsylvania woman charged along with her newlywed husband in the murder of a man they met through Craigslist admitted to the slaying in a jailhouse interview with a newspaper and said she has killed more than 20 others across the country, claims police said they are investigating. In an interview with the Daily Item in Sunbury, Pa., 19-year-old Miranda Barbour said she wants to plead guilty to killing Troy LaFerrara in November.
