E'Dena Hines, Morgan Freeman's granddaughter, was stabbed to death outside her Washington Heights home on West 162nd Street in New York City early Sunday morning. The man  charged with her murder  on Monday was her boyfriend, according to police. He has been arrested. Hines was the granddaughter of Freeman's first wife, Jeanette Adair Bradshaw. After a series of interdictions, the U.S. Coast Guard has found itself in possession of over 32 metric tons of cocaine worth an estimated $1 billion or more on the wholesale market. On the streets, they would likely have fetched $1.8 billion. Over 25,000 farmers in India have sought permission from their president to commit suicide on Independence Day, report local media. The move was sparked by the government’s failure to pay the farmers for land lost to the construction of the Gokul Barrage. The farmers wrote in a letter to President Pranab Mukherjee that they would either hang themselves or commit self-immolation on August 15 if the government fails to act. “We have lost all and want to end our lives. We want the president’s permission,” said farmer Roop Singh, as quoted by NDTV. Another farmer, Kisan Sangh, accused the government of ignoring the farmers’ interests. Farmer Kishan Bahadur echoed those sentiments, stating: “We demand compensation for the land acquired from us years ago for construction of Gokul Barrage. Information coming from the Chadian President, President Idriss Deby Itno has it that the dreaded Islamic terrorist group in the North Boko Haram has gotten a new leader to replace  Abubakar Shekau. The president of Chad, Idriss Deby, held a press conference where he claimed Boko Haram is on the defensive from a military standpoint and that their reign would conclude by the end of this year. Deby's forces have been fighting Boko Haram militants on the country's border with Nigeria. Deby added that a man named Mahamat Daoud has replaced Shekau and that Daoud wants to negotiate peace talks with the Nigerian government. This would mark a departure from Boko Haram's violent acts, such as the explosion of a bomb in the Nigerian village of Sabon Gari on Tuesday. The blast killed at least 47 people. A 57-year-old man has been granted divorce from his wife of 25 years from the fact that she doesn't provide him his meal on time.   "My wife had failed in her matrimonial obligations. She does not prepare my food on time and I have warned her several times, but she would not listen to me," he was quoted as saying. "There is no point in harbouring a wife that makes me hungry. I am totally fed up," Adekoya told the hearing, for which the paper gave no date. His wife denied the alleged dereliction, accusing her husband of plotting to take another wife. But court president Olu Adebiyi reportedly dissolved the unhappy union, concluding: "The court had tried several times to reconcile their differences, but all efforts proved abortive." It is thought to be the first time a husband has been granted a legal separation over his domestic meal time arrangements, although Nigeria is no stranger to bizarre divorce cases.

An 11-year-old girl who was denied an abortion after being raped gave birth Thursday, the culmination of a case that put a spotlight on child rape in this poor South American nation and drew criticism from human rights groups. Elizabeth Torales, a lawyer for the girl's mother, told The Associated Press that the minor gave birth to a baby girl via cesarean in a Red Cross hospital in Asuncion, Paraguay's capital. She said reported there were no complications and both the mother and baby were resting. "The baby doesn't yet have a name," said Torales, who added that her client and the girl's grandmother had requested custody of the infant. Hospital director Mario Villalba told reporters outside the hospital that the birth took about 35 minutes. She said the girl would remain in the hospital for three or four days, "like any other patient who has had a cesarean." North Korea's vice premier Choe Yong-Gon has been executed for challenging the policies of leader Kim Jong-Un, South Korea's Yonhap news agency said Wednesday, citing an anonymous source. Choe, who took the job in June 2014, was executed by firing squad in May after voicing opposition to forestry policies promoted by Kim, Yonhap said, citing the source "with knowledge of the North". Choe was last seen in the North's state media last December at the death anniversary of the late leader Kim Jong-Il, South Korea's unification ministry said Wednesday. Seoul was "closely monitoring the possibility of any changes in Choe's circumstances", said the ministry, which is in charge of cross-border affairs. Choe's death, if confirmed, would be the second reported this year. In 2013, a judge threw out a charge of apostasy against the 31-year-old liberal blogger after he proved to the court that he was a Muslim. The case against him included an allegation that he “liked” a Facebook page for Arab Christians. Badawi is already in prison after being sentenced to 10 years and 1,000 lashes for criticizing Saudi Arabian clerics in his liberal blog. He has so far been flogged once; repeated beatings have been postponed. The blogger's family and supporters had expressed hope that international pressure would result in Badawi's sentence being reduced.
